Abstract Submission

Abstract Submission

The deadline for submitting abstracts is August 15, 2022.
 

  • Each participant may submit up to two abstracts (as first author or co-author);

  • Each person can be the first author in a maximum of two abstracts;

  • The same person may co-author an unlimited number of abstracts;

  • There is no quantitative limit of co-authors per abstract;

  • It is necessary that at least one of the authors (first author or co-authors) be present at the congress to present;

  • Abstracts may be submitted for “oral presentations” or “poster” modalities;

  • The Organizing Committee may change the type of presentation indicated by the participant according to the scope of the work and availability of space for the presentations;

  • The abstract must be sent exclusively through the event registration platform by filling in the specific fields and attaching a document in doc format. according to the model provided here.

Abstract Themes

The submitted abstract must be included within one of the lines of research below:

  • Conservation - protected areas, legislation, environmental education, among other;

  • Animal health and contaminants - strandings, pathology, parasites, emerging diseases, zoonosis, biotoxins, heavy metals, plastic pollution, organochlorines, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), among others;

  • Trophic ecology - diet, stomach contents, stable isotopes, ,foraging ecology, biologging, among others;

  • Behavior - parental care, aggression, reproductive behavior, among others;

  • Climate change - habitat loss, food availability changes, Sea Surface Temperature (SST), among others;

  • Distribution and abundance - population dynamics, habitat use, migrations, population density, population structure, among others; 

  • Acoustics - bioacoustics, soundscape, passive acoustic monitoring, among others;

  • Morphology and Physiology - diving biologging, thermoregulation, reproduction, anatomy, geometric morphometry, histology, body condition, among others;

  • Interactions with man - tourism, fisheries, subsistence hunting, entanglements, among others; 

  • Genetics, Systematics and Evolution -  genomics, population genetics, epigenetics, taxonomy, fossils, paleoclimate, among others.

Abstract review

Each abstract will be reviewed and judged by at least two reviewers and may be accepted without corrections, accepted with suggested corrections or rejected, based on the following criteria:

  • Quality and clarity: abstracts must be objective and aim for clear communication.  Methods presented must be strong, contundent and current for the research area.

  • Originality and relevance: original work with relevant findings will be favoured, as will studies of great importance to furthering the scientific knowledge of aquatic mammals.

  • Results and conclusions: abstracts should emphasise results and provide clear answers to the main questions raised by the research.

  • Formatting and presentation: abstracts must follow all formatting and submission guidelines.  They must also be presented coherently and in the form of a scientific abstract, being concise and following a logical order (introduction, objectives, methods, results, discussion and conclusions).

Oral Presentation

Oral presentations must be made using digital slides in Powerpoint format (PPT or PPTX) with widescreen definition, 16: 9 aspect ratio. Presentation time will be 15 minutes, 10 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions and discussions.

 

The Congress logo must be present at least on the cover of the presentation.

 

Each participant must bring their slides on a flash drive, this presentation will be saved by the organizing committee at the time of registration.

Poster

dimensions

The poster should be made vertically, portrait format, measuring 90 cm x 120 cm in material chosen by the author (paper, fabric or canvas), with a top rope to hang on the structure. It is allowed to paste the poster, check if the material chosen for the confection accepts adhesive tape.

If you do not want to bring your printed poster, the RT19 Organizing Committee has partnered with a local print shop (Canal Alpha – Telephone: (71) 999790365) so that participants can print their posters locally, at a discount. It is necessary to verify the minimum time for sending the file, for printing at the time of the presentation. We suggest contacting us in advance.  

 

Title

It must be the same used in the approved abstract and in capital letters (except species), we suggest large letters to facilitate reading. Below the title, in smaller letters: authors' names, laboratory/department, institution, city and state.  

 

Poster Content

The textual elements of the poster must present an introduction, objectives, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusion and bibliographic references. 

Graphs, figures and tables should be explored. Always pay attention to the font size (suggestion 24), the content must be visible at a minimum distance of 1.0 meters.

The Congress logo must be present in the upper left corner of the poster. 

 

Presentation

The presence of the author (or co-authors) of the work throughout the presentation period is mandatory. Work without the presence of the person in charge will not receive a certificate.

Book of Abstracts

All accepted abstracts will be published in a book of abstracts in digital PDF format and with an ISBN number.
